Privacy notice
This notice explains what we do with your email address when you subscribe to Pillarbox Bushey. It is short because we collect very little.
Who we are
Pillarbox Bushey is published by North Wind Press Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 17253743, with its registered office at 167-169 Great Portland Street, London W1W 5PF. We are the data controller for the information described here.

What we collect
When you subscribe to the newsletter, we collect:
- Your email address.
- The date you subscribed and where you subscribed from, such as our website or a Facebook advert. This is how we show, if asked, that you agreed to receive the newsletter.
- Whether you open our emails and which links you click. This is standard email measurement and tells us which sections people find useful.
To subscribe you give us only your email address. We do not ask subscribers for a name, postal address, phone number or date of birth, and we do not buy or rent email addresses from anyone.
If you add your business to the directory
Our business form is separate from subscribing to the newsletter. If you fill it in, we collect the details you give us so we can list your business and reply to you:
- Business name and category.
- Street and postcode.
- A contact email address, and a phone number if you give one.
- Website and social media links, if you give them.
- Anything you write in the description field.
Most of this is business contact information rather than personal information, but where it identifies you as a sole trader we treat it the same way as any other personal data described here. We use it to review and publish your directory listing and to reply to you about it. Your email address is not published on the site, and we only add you to the newsletter if you tick the box asking us to.
Why we collect it, and our lawful basis
We use your email address for one purpose: to send you the Pillarbox Bushey newsletter and to reply if you write back to us.
Our lawful basis is your consent, which you give by entering your email address and subscribing. You can withdraw it at any time, and withdrawing it does not affect anything we did before you withdrew it.
For a directory listing, our lawful basis is your consent when you submit the business form, together with our legitimate interest in running a local business directory. You can ask us to remove your listing or your details at any time.
We do not sell your email address, we do not rent it, and we do not pass it to advertisers. Businesses that sponsor the newsletter buy space in the email. They never receive your details.
Who else handles your information
We use a small number of service providers who process your information on our instructions and cannot use it for their own purposes:
- Beehiiv, Inc. (United States) stores our subscriber list and sends the newsletter.
- Netlify, Inc. (United States) hosts this website and passes your email address to Beehiiv when you use the form. We do not keep a copy on our own servers.
- Meta Platforms, Inc. (United States) handles the subscription form if you signed up through a Facebook or Instagram advert rather than this website. Meta’s own privacy policy applies to your use of their platforms.
- NoCodeBackend stores the business details submitted through the directory form until we publish or remove the listing. It does not receive newsletter subscriber data.
- Resend, Inc. (United States) delivers the internal email that tells us a business has used the directory form, so we can reply. It does not receive newsletter subscriber data.
Information leaving the UK
Some of the providers listed above are based in the United States, or otherwise outside the UK, so your information may be transferred there. These transfers are covered by the UK extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or, where that does not apply, by the UK International Data Transfer Addendum to the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it
We keep your email address for as long as you are subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we keep a record of your address on a suppression list for 24 months so that we do not accidentally add you again, and then we delete it.
Business details submitted through the directory form are kept while your listing is live. If we do not publish it, or you ask us to remove it, we delete the details.
Cookies and tracking on this website
This website sets no cookies. We use no analytics, no advertising pixels and no third-party trackers, and the fonts are served from our own servers rather than a third party. Nothing about your visit is recorded beyond the standard server logs our host keeps for security.
Our newsletter archive is hosted separately by Beehiiv and their own cookie practices apply there.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the information we hold about you;
- have it corrected if it is wrong;
- have it deleted;
- ask us to restrict how we use it;
- receive it in a portable format;
- object to how we are using it; and
- withdraw your consent at any time.
To exercise any of these, email hello@pillarboxbushey.co.uk. We will respond within one month. There is no charge.
We do not use your information for automated decision-making or profiling.
How to unsubscribe
Every email we send has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. One click and you are off the list immediately. You can also email us and we will do it for you.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint, or by calling their helpline on 0303 123 1113.
Changes to this notice
If we change how we use your information we will update this page and change the date at the top. If the change is significant, we will say so in the newsletter.
